Do I need to write new prescriptions for FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus or FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

Yes. If you have patients who are currently using the FreeStyle Libre 2 or FreeStyle Libre 3 sensors, you will need to write them new prescriptions for the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus or FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor. See these helpful patient transition details to determine which sensor is appropriate for which patients.

When do these discontinuations come into effect?

FreeStyle Libre 2 and FreeStyle Libre 3 sensors will continue to be available through September 30, 2025.

Where are the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensors available for my patients?

The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensors are widely available to patients through retail pharmacy, DME suppliers, mail order companies, and government pharmacies.

How is Medicare coverage affected?

FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors have the same Medicare coverage as FreeStyle Libre 3 sensors. They are widely covered for those managing diabetes with insulin‖6,7.

FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensors have the same Medicare coverage as FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors. They are widely covered for those managing diabetes with insulin‖6,7.

Do I need to ship back or dispose of any unused FreeStyle Libre 2 or FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor samples?

No. Your practice can continue to use any FreeStyle Libre 2 or FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor samples within the expiration date. You do not need to ship back any unused sensors for disposal.
